FIELD TRIP Check IN

Thank you for being a part of the project! To get ready to go on your field trip we'll just need you to 'check in' by filling out the form below..

Who supplies what

Just a heads up around what we'll be taking care of... and what you'll be taking care of...

Us

Transfers ex Te Anau

We'll ensure you get from Te Anau to the island and back including your stay at one of the 13 bivs.

Food

We'll cover your food expenses for the fieldtrip and will also supply your cooking kit.

H&S

We'll project manage, provide you with a fieldplan and cover the health and safety for the trip.

Comms gear

We'll have GPS, InReach, PLBs and VHF radios ready for you to keep comms up while you're in the field.

Tools

We'll provide all tools and baits needed for servicing the gear on the island.

Training

We'll give you a thorough brief and run down on how the servicing is done.

You

Transfers to Te Anau

You'll need to get yourself to Te Anau and arrange you own accommodation.

Backpack

Please bring your own backpack and tramping gear including boots and sleeping bag.

Personal back country gear

Take everything you would on your own solo multiday mission including raincoat, overtrousers, gaters, thermals, hats, gloves...

Cameras

You'll find 84 motion cameras on Tau Moana/ Five Finger Peninsula which were sponsored by the Kakapo team with high hopes for the island in the future. We'll brief you on our protocols and set up.

ALDs

We got 84 of these paired up with the cameras above on Tau Moana/Five Finger Peninsula. The ZIP MotoLure is a robust tool that can be used in a range of situations. It dispenses a preset amount of fresh mayonnaise lure for possums, rats and stoats (which can be paired with a biomarker), for up to one year without requiring manual service.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK WAIVER & RELEASE OF LIABILITY

In consideration of, and in recognition of the inherent risks of the activity associated with the participation in the Pure Salt NZ Ltd. trips, I agree, on behalf of myself, my/our heirs, representatives, successors, executors, administrators and assigns, to hereby release, waive, discharge and agree not to sue Pure Salt NZ Ltd., its officers, directors, shareholders, agents, volunteers, and employees, from any and all claims or demands, obligations and/or causes of action of any nature whatsoever which I may have against Pure Salt NZ Ltd., its officers, directors, shareholders, agents, volunteers, and employees, on account of any personal injury, property damage, death or accident of any kind, arising out of or in any way connected with the participation in the Pure Salt NZ Ltd.’s trip, whether any of my acts during the trip are supervised or unsupervised and I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the persons or entities mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made by other individuals or entities as a result of my actions. I further certify, acknowledge and agree on behalf of myself that: I am physically, and mentally capable of participating in the activity; I assume responsibility for and voluntarily assume the risks for any personal injury, death and related expenses involved with this activity; I assume responsibility for damage to my personal property; I assume the responsibility to question the staff of Pure Salt NZ Ltd. if I hear, see or feel that anything is questionable, dangerous, incorrect or unclear, I assume the risks for accidents or injury caused by the negligence of my guides and leaders. I further acknowledge on behalf of myself that wearing appropriate clothing and footwear are basic safety precautions, and that utilising such medication against dangerous diseases that requires special care due to side effects, is thoroughly on my own personal risk.

Risk Waiver &Release of Liability

SETS OUT THE EXPECTATIONS FOR A SAFE AND REWARDING VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE.

As a volunteer I agree to:

Perform all tasks outlined in the role description on a voluntary basis, and of my own free will, and will not receive payment for my work.Be available to undertake additional tasks, including dealing with emergencies, provided they are mutually agreed and within my capability.

Operate under the direction and supervision of the Pure Salt appointed supervisor and comply with reasonable instructions and guidance.

Be proactive in taking all reasonable practical steps to ensure the safety of myself and others affected by my work, and to cooperate fully in implementing the Pure Salt health and safety policy and procedures, including use and care of any equipment provided.

Accept that should the safety of other individuals or property be compromised in any way by my actions, my services as a volunteer may be terminated.

Perform the volunteer role to the best of my ability, and if this is not possible, agree to give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made.

Not disclose any confidential or sensitive information relating to Pure Salt to other persons or organisations, or make use of for my own benefit, without permission, either during my volunteer work or after its termination.

Accept that any accident I may have is classified as a non-work accident which will not entitle me for any payment, and that any medical costs associated with accidents are paid by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

Volunteers need to read and be familiar with the HAZARDS AND RISK register specific to each project before commencing any volunteer activities.
I confirm that I have advised Pure Salt of all my relevant medical conditions, medication dependencies and dietary needs in the interest of my own health and safety while volunteering.

I note that Pure Salt will provide:

A role description for me to understand my role and the tasks I will be carrying out when volunteering. This may in the form of a verbal description or a written volunteer role description.

Notify me if there is a change in the tasks assigned to me.

An induction, and appropriate supervision and support to enable me to meet the standards expected of my role.

A safe and healthy environment to perform my role in accordance with New Zealand law.Fair resolution of any problems, complaints and difficulties should I encounter while volunteering.

Feedback and recognition of my work and contributions.

I understand that:

Pure Salt does not accept any responsibility for any injury and loss or damage to personal items/ equipment of volunteers arising from any activities that are not part of my role as a volunteer.

Personal insurance for my travel to or stay in remote areas if my domicile is not within New Zealand, is recommended as accident and rescue compensation through the ACC may be limited.

Pure Salt may use photographs/images taken of my volunteer service for promotional purposes.

Please make yourself familiar with the Health and Safety Plan below so you know what you're signing when you turn up on site. Also feel free to let us know if there is anything you think might be missing as we're all learning constantly.
